Managing Intellectual Property has presented its annual awards to companies in the IP sector. We are pleased to announce that out of the six awards presented to Finnish IP specialists, a record of three were awarded to Heinonen and Eversheds.
Eversheds Attorneys received the Finnish Copyright & Design Firm of the Year award, while Heinonen & Co was given the Finnish Trademark Prosecution Firm of the Year award.
We also received recognition in the form of the Impact Case of the Year award for a case in which we successfully represented our client in a trademark matter before the Supreme Administrative Court. The fact that the Supreme Administrative Court published the case as decision KHO 2020:73 in its Yearbook due to its value as a precedent demonstrates the significance of the case. According to our information, it was the first time the Patent and Registration Office appealed the Market Court’s decision to the Supreme Administrative Court. The decision also has significant implications for the assessment of the deceptive nature of trademarks. More information on the case is available on our website (in Finnish) or from our Specialist Counsel Kati Rantala, Senior Associate Minna Hanninen and Junior Associate Sara Väyrynen who took care of the case.
With respect to Finland, Managing IP Awards consists of six different categories: Patent Contentious, Trademark Contentious, Patent Prosecution, Trademark Prosecution, Copyright & Design, and Impact Cases of the Year. Together, Eversheds and Heinonen thus received three of the six awards. We were also nominated in the Trademark Contentious and Patent Prosecution categories.
The Managing IP Awards programme recognises remarkable achievements in the field of intellectual property rights in the past 12 months. This year, the Managing IP Awards ceremonies were organised virtually because of the coronavirus pandemic. The full results are available on Managing IP’s website.
